International Astrology Day is celebrated by astrologers and astrology enthusiasts every year. It is the day the Sun ingresses into Aries, marking the beginning of the tropical Zodiac and the start of the astrological year.

21 March 2011

International Astrology Day falls on the day of the Equinox (Spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere, Autumn equinox in the Southern hemisphere). This varies each year from March 19–22, though it usually occurs on either March 20 or March 21.

The date of International Astrology Day happens at the same time of the Iranian new year (Norouz), which is celebrated in many places throughout the Middle East and Central Asia. It also corresponds with the beginning of the Bahá’í calendar, which is celebrated as Bahá’í Naw-Rúz. Other holidays occurring around this time include Ostara (amongst neopagans), Chunfen in China, and Vernal Equinox Day (a public holiday in Japan), among others.

The use of Ingress charts was developed by Medieval Arab astrologers who used the Aries Ingress chart to describe the “flavour” of the year ahead. Here is the chart for Australia set in Canberra. The angles are fixed so this chart holds for the whole year until the next Aries Ingress in 2012 (click to view larger image).

Venus, ruling the Taurus Ascendant, is in the 10th – clearly describing our female Prime Minister. While public opinion (the Moon) of her has been low, the Moon is in Libra and moving away from Saturn suggesting her popularity will improve. Saturn also represents the Government (MC Aquarius) so perhaps it is the Labour party whose popularity is waning. The Sun also represents the leader (and in this case, the Opposition). Expect the unexpected from both sides, especially new laws being passed after hot dispute (Sun-Uranus in Aries). We will also spend a considerable amount if energy dealing with our neighbours (11th) this year.
