Most astrologers know that horary astrology can be used to locate lost objects, but few realise that medieval and early modern texts also contain rules for finding hidden treasure. These chapters have long been misunderstood as extensions of lost-object techniques, when in fact they belong to the forgotten world of magical treasure hunting - a world populated by divination, ritual magic, buried riches, and the spirits and demons believed to guard them. In this lecture, Rob uncovers the history of astrological treasure hunting from its roots in the medieval Islamicate tradition to its adoption in early modern Europe, revealing the remarkable techniques astrologers employed to guide treasure seekers in their search for hidden wealth.
About the Speaker:
Rob Bailey is a Canberra-based astrologer with a deep focus on the historical evolution of the craft. He has studied traditional astrology since 2007 and obtained his FAA Diploma of Astrology (formerly the Practitioner's Certificate) in 2018. Rob formalised his horary foundations under Christopher Warnock, a renowned scholar of Renaissance techniques, and now specialises in the early medieval Islamicate tradition. A passionate educator, Rob co-teaches a comprehensive horary course with Chris Brennan, author of Hellenistic Astrology and host of The Astrology Podcast.
